Windows 2008 – Failure Configuring Windows Updates. Reverting Changes.

Windows 2008 – Failure Configuring Windows Updates. Reverting Changes.

There was an issue updating our Windows Server 2008 R2 servers. The updates install successfully prior to the reboot, but during the reboot we get the error “Failure Configuring Windows Updates. Reverting Changes”. Checking the update history, I noticed that all updates were failed to install.

This was actually due to Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for out-of-support Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 machines. One of the prerequisites

4538484 Extended Security Updates (ESU) Licensing Preparation Package for Windows Server 2008 SP2.

This issue was fixed upon installation of the mail prerequisites. Click here for more detailed information about the prerequisites.

Thanks,
